If anything here conflicts with what a school was told in writing by a coordinator, raise it on the grievance contact below before registering.

The event is photographed and filmed throughout, including from the air by drone. Students in the formation will appear in that footage.

Why the event is filmed

A record attempt has to be documented to be verified. Continuous aerial and ground-level video, participant attendance records and photography are part of the submission to the record authority — without them there is no attempt.

What the footage is used for

Record documentation — submitted to the record authority and its officials for adjudication and verification.
Sharing with participating schools — so each school has coverage of its own students and of the full formation.
Press and media coverage of the event.
Promotion of SNK Dance Company and of future events, on our website, social media accounts and printed material.

We do not sell footage of students to third parties, and we do not licence it for advertising by anyone other than ourselves.

Consent

Consent is obtained through the school. SNK Dance Company collects the participation fee from a student only once the student and their parent or guardian have agreed to the procedures and regulations of the event, which include being photographed and filmed.

Schools: please make sure the parent or guardian of every participating student has agreed to this before you register them, and keep that consent on file.

How the footage is framed

The performance is a mass formation of thousands of students, so most of the coverage is wide and no individual is the subject of it. Close-up photography and interviews are taken as the day allows; a student who does not wish to be photographed close up can say so to their teacher on the day and our team will respect it.

If you would rather your child was not filmed

Tell the school coordinator before the event, and ask them to inform us. We will do what we reasonably can — including keeping that student out of close-up photography and out of promotional material.

We cannot promise a student will be absent from wide shots of the whole ground or from the aerial footage: the routine is performed by the entire formation at once, and the documentation has to record the whole of it. If that is not acceptable to a family, the student should not be registered.

Asking us to remove something

If a specific photograph or clip of your child has been published by us and you want it taken down, contact the grievance officer below with enough detail to identify it. We will remove it from our own website and social media where we are able to. Material already submitted as part of the record documentation, or published by news media or by third parties who obtained it independently, is outside our control.
